Job overview

An opportunity has arisen for an experience within the Leg Ulcer Team to appoint a Band 5 Leg Ulcer Clinic Nurse into our friendly and supportive team. You must have effective communication and negotiation skills.  As an advocate for our patients you need to have the ability to inspire people at all levels. This post would require that you have an understanding of the expanding role of Leg Ulcer Nurse and would have the commitment to take it forward. You will need a sound understanding of the current primary care agenda.  You will need a good knowledge of leg Ulcers, treatments and have current Doppler and compression therapy competencies. You will need to be innovative and able to work autonomously whilst promoting a positive and supportive learning environment for team members and students. 

 

Main duties of the job

  • To provide skilled nursing care in relation to the delivery of wound care within the community Leg Ulcer Clinics. 
  • To provide assistance with clinical/nursing care using the knowledge and skills necessary to holistically assess individuals and contribute to the clinical care required by the patient. 
  • To provide health education to all patients/carers, giving counsel and advice appropriate to the situation. 
  • To support the development and maintenance of clinical guidelines, pathways and policies where appropriate. These Guidelines, Pathways and Policies may be used by clinicians’ working within Dudley Group NHS Foundation Trust. 
  • Using the knowledge and skills necessary to assess individuals identifying the multiple needs of the patient taking into consideration the cultural differences. 
  • Ensuring the changing needs of patients are identified timely and adjustments to programmes of care are made. 
  • To support the development, interpretation and dissemination of clinical audit of the Leg Ulcer service. 
  • To communicate effectively with all patients/carers and all members of the Multi-Disciplinary team.

Qualifications & Education

Essential criteria
  • First Level Registered Nurse
Desirable criteria
  • Leg Ulcer Management Module/Tissue Viability Module
  • Relevant post Graduate Experience
  • Precepership programme and associated competences

Knowledge & Trianing

Essential criteria
  • Proven ability to develop and maintain working relationships with other professionals
  • Ability to supervise others
  • Knowledge of managing patients with Leg Ulcers
Desirable criteria
  • Working knowledge of Oasis IT system
  • Knowledge of stock requisitions and monitoring

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Current Doppler and Bandaging competences
  • Work on own inititive
  • Show ability to adapt to change

Communication & Relationship Skills

Essential criteria
  • Work as a team
  • Understand the importance of the Code of Professional Conduct
  • Demonstrate understanding of evidence based practice
