Do you have a passion for Cancer services? Would you be interested in working alongside the Haematology and Oncology teams as a Pharmacist Independent Prescriber?

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated and dynamic Band 8a Pharmacist to join the Pharmacy Department at The Dudley Group NHS Foundation Trust. The successful applicant will join an experienced team of specialist cancer and preparative services pharmacy staff who provide a comprehensive service to haematology and oncology patients across the Trust.

The ideal candidate needs to have knowledge and experience of clinical pharmacy service provision within the specialities of Haematology and Oncology, but we are able to accept applications from aspiring Band 8a pharmacists that are willing to undergo further training to reach the desired level as part of a Band 7 to 8a STEP programme.

Main duties of the job

You will support the Principal Pharmacist, Cancer Services, to deliver a specialist Pharmacy Service to patients receiving systemic anti-cancer treatments. 

You will be responsible for leading and developing the clinical pharmacy service for patients requiring systemic anticancer therapies within the Haematology and Oncology Division.  

You will have the opportunity to work as a Pharmacist Independent Prescriber to support the provision of systemic anticancer treatments to Haematology and Oncology patients.

Person specification

Qualifications & Education

Essential criteria
  • MPharm or equivalent academic qualification
  • Current membership of the General Pharmaceutical Council
  • Postgraduate clinical specialist knowledge acquired through diploma level training i.e. Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy
Desirable criteria
  • Pharmacist Independent Non-medical prescriber (or willing to work towards completion)

Knowledge and Training

Essential criteria
  • Clinical Oncology and Haematology knowledge
  • Assessment & interpretation of Systemic Anticancer Therapy prescriptions
  • Provision of out of hours pharmaceutical services if service requires this
  • Evidence of commitment to continuing education
Desirable criteria
  • Understanding of all laws relating to aseptic dispensing & supply of medicines
  • Writing and maintaining SOPS, reports and performing audits

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Extensive hospital (secondary care) experience post registration
  • Experience in the provision of clinical pharmacy services to oncology and haematology patients
  • Experience in prescription verification of Systemic Anticancer Treatments
  • Able to work during the normal working week, extended hours, weekends and bank holidays.
Desirable criteria
  • Experience in working as a non-medical prescriber within Oncology or Haematology
  • Experience in in process checks and final check/release of Systemic Anticancer Treatments and parenteral nutrition products
  • Line management experience
  • Experience in implementing change and project management
  • Able to commute to meet the demands of the post.
