We admit approximately 650 stroke patients per annum. The Trust is currently Level B in the SSNAP audit, and we aim to achieve Level A. The new Consultant will augment the service. The Trust currently provides a 24/7 stroke thrombolysis service. Currently, there are 7 one-stop TIA clinics per week and ‘high-risk TIA’ patients are also seen in the unit daily.
Weekend ward rounds are undertaken in both hyper-acute/acute stroke and stroke rehabilitation units. The stroke unit is fully equipped with all investigation facilities (portable echo/TOE, carotid duplex, 7-day ECG monitoring, and trans-cranial Doppler).
