Job overview

We are strengthening the Maternity Governance team at Dudley Group and are seeking an experienced, motivated individual to lead our risk management and clinical governance agenda.

The Maternity Governance lead will report to the Head of Midwifery and is responsible through strong leadership and effective management to deliver the quality, risk and governance agenda required to ensure that a high standard of safe, evidence-based care is consistently delivered and evaluated. They will provide oversight of governance, standards, safety and compliance to drive the development of a patient safety culture and safety systems, working internally and externally to the Trust in networks to share good practice, drive improvement and ensure robust governance.  

 

The Maternity Governance Lead will support quality improvement initiatives and implementation of local, regional and national recommendations. They will co-ordinate internal and external reporting requirements in relation to risk management, standards and governance. They will have a close working relationship with the Trust’s governance team, representing the division and maternity issues at a senior level, and supporting the Trust wide risk and governance agenda.

There will be an on call commitment with this post.

Person specification

Qualifications and experience

Essential criteria
  • Evidence of degree level study / or equivalent experience within the healthcare setting
  • Masters level qualification, or equivalent experience working at a senior level
  • Evidence of further professional and personal development
Desirable criteria
  • Registered Midwife

Knowledge and Training

Essential criteria
  • Completion of recognised training for RCA investigation
  • Knowledge and ability to use databases, Outlook, Word and Excel (Microsoft office) and DATIX.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Proven ability to develop and communicate a long-term vision for patient safety and convert that into plans, objectives and deliverables for their organisation
  • Experience of driving improvement for the safety of patients and implementing change projects and quality improvement at senior/corporate level
  • Have previous experience / responsibility for clinical governance systems (NHS governance)

The postholder will have access to vulnerable people in the course of their normal duties and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.
